Google Chrome has launched its newest advert today featuring

British company The Cambridge Satchel Company.

New Google Chrome ad features UK brand The Cambridge Satchel CompanyThe Cambridge Satchel Company, yes you guessed it, is based in Cambridge and they produce satchels. Google selected the company because of the entrepreneurial spirit of the founder Julie Deane, who ships leather satchels all over the world from a village just outside Cambridge.

Julie founded The Cambridge Satchel Company from her kitchen table in 2008 with just £600. For those who think you need a lot of start up capital to run a successful business, think again. The inspiration for the company came from Julie’s love of an old satchel she had as a child and her desire to find a similar version for her own children when they started school.

When Julie discovered no one was producing traditional leather satchels she set about designing and producing them. Since then she has sold them online and created a global fashion craze. Her company is heading to a turnover of £10m this year.

The leather satchels have been sold in over 100 countries worldwide, including in outlets in the UK and abroad.

Before starting The Cambridge Satchel Company, Deane, who founded the business with her mother Freda Thomas, was a full-time mum.

The 60 second advert, created by creative agency BBH (Bartle Bogle Hegarty),  tracks Julie’s business journey from sourcing UK manufacturers, to liaising with top fashion editors and engaging with big name celebrities who have since become both fans and advocates of the brand.

The internet was instrumental in the success of The Cambridge Satchel Company, as founder Julie Deane says:

“We are absolutely thrilled that we have been selected to feature in the new Google Chrome ad. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short space of time; I can’t wait for the world to see how far we’ve come. The Internet was crucial to me when I started my business – it helped me find my first factory, leather suppliers and discover the gap in the market for satchels. Bloggers have also played a huge part in the success of the company, so the internet has been fundamental to us as a business.”

Julie joins other stars and entrepreneurs to have featured in Google Chrome ads, including Jamal Edwards of SB TV, pop sensation Lady Gaga and Dan Savage who used the web to create the, It Gets Better project – a movement that has generated thousands of uplifting videos that give hope to teens.

Good luck to Julie and all the other stars and entrepreneurs.
